How To Subscribe To RSS Feeds
If you're unfamiliar with RSS, read on. If you are, my links are further down.
'RSS', which stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', is a method through which you, a reader, can receive new writings, podcast episodes, or videos from the folks who make them.
It's wonderful: private, doesn't overwhelm your email, and algorithm-free.
To participate as a reader, you need something to fetch these updates for you. This is an 'RSS reader.' There are many to choose from, but might I suggest Commafeed or Artemis?
Once you've obtained one, you need to find some RSS Feeds! Here are a few ways:
- Use my bookmarklet! It's code you put in your bookmarks bar. To use it, visit a site you'd like to find the feed for, then click on that bookmark. If it finds one, it'll open it for you in a new tab. Then, copy the link in the address bar, and give that to your RSS Reader.
- Some RSS Readers come with a browser extension you can install, and it works the same way as my bookmarklet, but there are fewer steps required and it's a little more elegant.
- Several websites link to their RSS feeds. Look on their homepage, in the header, or footer, for a link saying 'subscribe', 'follow', 'RSS', 'Feeds', or a WiFi icon that looks tilted.
- If you find a link, you can paste it into Subscribe Openly to find a way to put it in your preferred reader.
Hope that helps, and happy reading!
My RSS Feed
Here's my RSS feed! It's also linked in every page's footer.

From Road Less Read
The internet isn't fun anymore. Apparently. But the wonderful stuff is still here! You just need to know where. Subscribe to get bookish discoveries and curios delivered.
How To Receive The Newsletter
Want curated books and curiosities delivered straight to you? I send dispatches with recommendations/reviews worth reading, and curiosities worth examining.
How To Use RSS
It's how the web's meant to work: no algorithms, no tracking, just content you choose appearing when you want it. New to RSS? Here's how to get started:
- Choose an RSS reader. I use FreshRSS, but other solid options include Artemis, CommaFeed, Feedly, Inoreader, or NetNewsWire.
- Add the feed. Copy the feed URL above and paste it into your reader's "add feed" or "subscribe" option.
- Read on your schedule. New posts appear in your reader when I publish them. No emails, no notifications unless you want them.
Why Subscribe?
Because you deserve better than doomscrolling. There are still books worth reading and stories worth sharing. The internet is still a wonderful place.
I write about scifi, fantasy, young adult fiction, non-fiction and the occasional literary tangent. I share what moves me, what surprises me, and what makes me think.
If that sounds like something you'd read, I'd be honored to have you along.
Enjoy What I Do? Find It (Hopefully) Helpful?
I'm so glad! If you feel moved to support me in making things, I'd most appreciate it!
