What Are UnOffice Hours?

Matt Webb created the UnOffice Hours concept in September 2020. His philosophy behind it was:

I loved those open conversations over coffee in the Before Times. There’s an ostensible reason to connect, so you talk about work, or compare notes about an idea, or whatever. But then the unexpected emerges. (Sometimes you have to hunt for it.)

There are things in your head that you only know are there when you say them. And there are encounters with new ideas and new perspectives. 1:1 conversation is a vital part of my process in finding work, but also simply in thinking.

But with us all going remote in a giant forced experiment, I wasn’t getting that input. Could it work over Zoom? It turns out it can.

Almost five years on, at the time of writing this, it's been a success! He's had over 400 calls with fascinating people.

How Does It Work?

Looking forward to talking to you!

What Could We Talk About?

Great question! Here are some ideas:

And don't worry if those don't fit! I like to think of myself as an interested, friendly soul, and I like meeting folk. So go on, introduce yourself!

Plus, don't think of this as a one time thing! If I know you, or we meet and get along/have something in common, please book again. I'd love to catch up/stay in touch.

Acknowledgement Of Country

I acknowledge the folks whose lands I owe my existence to: the Koori people. The traditional owners, storytellers, and first peoples. This land's been tended and lived alongside for millennia with knowledge passed down through generations. What a legacy. May it prevail.
