Things You'd Perhaps Enjoy
Things I wish to share with you, in the hopes you'll enjoy them.
Table Of Contents
Comics
- Home Is A Cup Of Tea by Candace Rose Rardon: Home is... however you wish to think of it. I thought this was a lovely concept. Beautifully drawn.
- On A Sunbeam by Tillie Walden: A webcomic (and now a gorgeous book) illustrating two intertwined stories: an epic space adventure and a love story closer to home.
Curiosities
- 4.5 Years Living In An Abandoned Ghost Town by Brent Underwood: This man undertook the journey of a lifetime. Extraordinary things happen when you persevere (and are brave enough to try.)
- All The Zines I Bought In Las Vegas by Bre: This lovely woman is a zinester, and often catalogs additions to her collection. A wealth of formats, subjects, and designs!
- Crawlspace: A publication pushing the creative boundaries of writing and art on the web.
- Dense Discovery by Kai Brach: So much fascinating stuff, every single week.
- Pizza Toast & Coffee: Kissa Būgen by Craig Mod: There's something lovely about the care this man puts into something coffee and what you might call an open sandwich: anything can become restorative.
- Sky Scrolls: An evocative name for a digital storytelling project.
- The HTML Review: Limitations are the well from which incredible creativity springs.
- The Name Of Things You Probably Didn’t Know: This English language, in its ridiculous complexity, is forever fascinating.
- Winter Solstice: Newgrange Guided Tour: No matter how far back you go in time, the sky has always captivated humanity.
- Wood Cut Illustrations (Antwerp's Historical Collections): The amount of medieval wonders in here is staggering.
Games
- Wayfinder: Like nature, this game constantly reinvents itself.
Essays
- A Gratitude Zine by Austin Kleon: It seems simple, but it's a way of reminding oneself: there's so much beauty in the world. How often do we notice it?
- Brilliant Exiles Book Review by Beth Williamson: Paris has a fascinating arts history, and when you add its expats to the mix, you find things you'd never discover otherwise.
- Research As Leisure Activity by Celine Nguyen: An evocative title for a wonderfully consuming pastime. In a world where it's so easy to entertain oneself without lifting a finger, putting in even a little effort can change your life.
- The Self Appointed Artist Residency, Explained by Amy Stewart: Why wait for the world to give you the answer when you can create your own?
Music
- Angie McMahon Covers Australian Crawl's 'Reckless': This woman's voice! Lyricism! And subtle, yet powerful energy while performing! One of my favorite musicians.
- Blackbird by Fat Freddy's Drop: This song, by a nine-piece Kiwi outfit, is as haunting as it is lovely.
- I Might Say Something Stupid by Charli XCX (With The 1975 & Jon Hopkins): It glitches between ambient trickling reminiscent of rain on a tin roof, electronica, and a haunting guitar solo. Strange sadness at its best.
- Next Exit by Vacations: This band, from Newcastle in Australia, make a delightful mix of lofi, indie rock, and jangly guitars.
- Puzzles by Explo: A haunting melody, surreal visuals, and a melancholy multi-layered vocal make for a lovely avant-garde song. Solving puzzles seems to be the only constant in life. At least it can be beautiful.
- Winter Is For Kirkegaard by Tyler Lyle: Winter pairs well with existential philosophy. Something about the way the old world disappears to be born anew in the spring. What are we, if not forever unbecoming and being reborn?
Talks
- Cabel Sasser's XOXO Festival 2024 Talk: This made me cry. Such a beautiful, important reminder of why we need to keep the art of ancestors (and our own) alive for not just our descendants, but our future selves.
